Year 1 to A level
Maths that makes sense, one skill at a time.
300 lessons following the national curriculum for England. Each one shows the idea, works an example, then gives fresh practice questions, with feedback on the exact mistake when an answer is wrong.
Free in your browser on any computer, tablet or phone. No sign-up, no adverts. Apps for iPhone, iPad and Android are on the way.

How a lesson works
Understand it first. Then practise until it sticks.
Every lesson teaches one idea, in the same three steps.
See the idea
A short explanation with a picture you can change, so the idea makes sense before any questions.

Follow an example
Worked examples show each step, and the questions that follow change every time, so practice never runs out.

Practise with feedback
When an answer is wrong, Mathfinch looks at what was typed and names the likely mistake, with a check to try and the steps to get it right.

Inside every lesson
Built to help a learner work it out, not just get told.
Fresh questions
Questions are generated each time, so a learner can keep practising without repeats.
Hints and solutions
Every question has hints and a worked solution, for when a learner is stuck.
Feedback on the mistake
Not just “wrong”: the likely slip is named, so it can be put right.
Read to me
For Years 1 and 2, questions, hints and feedback can be read aloud.
Space for working out
A drawing pad sits beside the question for jottings and sketches.
A place to start
A short starting check for primary maths suggests where to begin.
Up to 8 learners
Brothers and sisters can share a device, each with their own nickname and progress.
Works offline
Once it has opened, the app keeps working without an internet connection.
No accounts
Nothing to sign up for. Progress is saved on the device, not on our servers.
A look inside
From counting to calculus.

Made for families
Nothing to sign up for. Nothing collected.
Mathfinch is designed for children, so it is built to collect no personal data at all.
No accounts
No sign-in, no email address, no real names: each learner picks a nickname.
No adverts or tracking
No adverts, no analytics, no cookies and no in-app purchases.
Progress stays with you
Answers are saved on the device you use. A grown-up can save a copy to move it.
About the lessons
Honest about where it is.
Every lesson follows the national curriculum for England and passes automated maths checks. The lessons haven’t yet been checked by a qualified teacher, and the app says so on each one.
If something looks wrong, a grown-up can report the exact question from inside the app, and we’ll fix it.
Good to know
Some practical skills, such as drawing with instruments or using a calculator, and written proofs are taught in the lessons but can’t be marked by the app. It tells you which.
Mathfinch covers 300 topics across every school year. It isn’t the whole curriculum: some parts are only partly covered so far.
Ready when you are. Pick a nickname and start.
It runs in your web browser. There’s nothing to install.
